Job Description

JOB TITLE: Product Engineering Manager

DEPARTMENT: Product Engineering

JOB DESCRIPTION:

A: Purpose and Scope

The Product Engineering Manager is responsible for the product engineering function. The Product Engineering Manager is also responsible for ensuring the Product Engineering Department conforms to the company quality system procedures as documented.

B. Responsibilities

Establish procedures for maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and safety in product designs and applications. Determine and enforce -- through functional groups - quality and safety requirements in accordance with real company needs, based on current regulations and state-of-the art product development. Evaluate and develop improved techniques for the control of product designs, quality, reliability and safety. Also works with customers, as required, to ensure products conform to customer requirements and meet the customers needs.

Directly responsible for implementation and maintenance of design control procedures, reporting on the performance of product engineering and improving product designs.

C. Organization Relationships

The Product Engineering Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering and has a support responsibility to all functional directors and managers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education and Training

The Product Engineering Manager should have a four year technical degree, preferably in a field that offers as opportunity to gain a well rounded background. Additional class work in management type courses and problem-solving techniques is preferred.

B. Technical Requirements

Three or more years of broad technical experience, of which at least two years should be product management or product engineering.

C. Managerial Experience

Three or more years experience in managing technical personnel and complex activities. These experiences should be gained in areas of engineering or technical operations and should include a minimum of two years in product/engineering management.
