Job Description

JOB TITLE: Design Manager

DEPARTMENT: Design/Engineering

JOB DESCRIPTION:

A: Purpose and Scope

The Design Manager is responsible for the design function. The Design Manager is also responsible for ensuring the Design Department conforms to the company quality system procedures as documented.

B. Responsibilities

Establish procedures for maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and safety in product designs. Determine and enforce -- through functional groups - quality and safety requirements in accordance with real company needs, based on current regulations and state-of-the art design practices. Evaluate and develop improved techniques for the control of product designs, quality, reliability and safety. Also works with customers, as required, to ensure products conform to customer requirements and meet the customers needs.

Directly responsible for implementation and maintenance of design control procedures, reporting on the performance of the design department and improving product designs.

C. Organization Relationships

The Design Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering and has a support responsibility to all functional directors and managers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A. Education and Training

The Design Manager should have a four year technical degree, preferably in a field that offers as opportunity to gain a well rounded background. Additional class work in management type courses and problem-solving techniques is preferred.

B. Technical Requirements

Five to ten years of broad technical experience, of which at least two to three years should be product design at the wafer level.

C. Managerial Experience

Three to five years experience in managing technical personnel and complex activities. These experiences should be gained in areas of design engineering or technical management and should include a minimum of two years in wafer design management.
